Gleanings From The Word

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life

God's Desk

I'm sitting here looking at some of the piles of "stuff" that have accumulated in the midst of my office of late.

  • A ball peen hammer. I couldn't find my regular hammer to pound in the nail in clamps (also on my desk) when I rerouted the cables to my computer a while back.

  • A couple of new teaching videos I received sitting unopened in their shrink-wrap.

  • Some sermon Cd’s I received in the mail. Some have been listened to and some not.

  • A book I'm reviewing for a Christian newspaper. A book a friend gave me on the Koran that I'm partway through. A pile of books to be read.

  • A list of books I want to read. A list of books that I would like to have for reference purposes but aren't in the budget right now.

  • A roll of clear packing tape. Great stuff for fixing torn pages, wrapping parcels and using almost anyplace duct tape would do.

  • A stack of unanswered mail

  • Two portable cassette players. One of which works

  • Some flyers advertising computer systems. The one I use for Gleanings is getting tired.

  • A wheat bag. Great either heated or cold for muscle aches

  • An eyeglass repair kit. The frames on my glasses need tightening occasionally.

  • A perpetual motion toy I got for Christmas.

  • A bag of dog biscuits for Genni

  • A book a friend had written that I'm doing some editing work on

  • A piece of paper with a name on it. It's been there for a long time because I don't know who the person is or why I wanted to remember their name

  • The list goes on and on

That list doesn't include all the reference books and Bibles I use for my regular study, the material for my regular small group meeting or the curriculum for the adult Sunday school I teach.

Sometimes, I think my office is a microcosm of life. A series of projects finished, postponed, partway done and to be done along with some of the tools needed to tackle those projects.

I've often wondered what God's desk must look like. Somehow, I suspect that it isn't nearly as cluttered. He's the God who created the universe and everything in it with a word. He can handle all the prayers of the world, past, present and future in a heartbeat. He knows all about everyone of us and every choice we have made and will make and He knew it before we were ever even conceived.

He doesn't need packing tape because He needs no help to repair the hurts of life. He doesn't need a hammer and nail-in clamps because He never needed to second-guess an installation.

He doesn't need a stack of books, tapes and Cd’s because He already knows it all.

He doesn't forget the name of someone on a piece of paper because He knows each of us intimately. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our shortfalls and He knows the potential He has given each of us.

He doesn't need a wheat bag because there is no pain in heaven.

He doesn't need a perpetual motion toy, because He created all motion and has galaxies beyond my comprehension at His beck and call.

Even if God needed a desk, anything on it would be beyond what I could ever hope to comprehend.

I'm always amazed to think that a God that big cares so much about the daily lives of people who seem so insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe. He not only cares in a general sense, He knows all the details.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb Psalm 139:13 NIV

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-30 NIV

Whatever else God is doing in heaven, He knows us and He cares for us. He loves us and provides for us. It's not an abstract general love for His creation but a deep abiding intimate love for each of us.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV

We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:13-16 NIV

Whatever pile of half completed tasks you have in your life, know that God never leaves a task partially done. He is watching you, He is listening to you and He cares for you deeply.

Until next time, rejoice in His love and be thankful that His desk doesn't look like mine.

Be blessed

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

Kevin

YOU ARE

Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are the apple of God's eye.

For this is what the LORD Almighty says: "After he has honored me and has sent me against the nations that have plundered you--for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye
Zechariah 2:8 NIV

Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. You have value in the eyes of God so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world.

God created you to have an intimate personal relationship with Him. It doesn't matter how clutter your life has become or how many mistakes you have made, He is there if you just invite Him into your life.

If you haven't made the decision to accept Christ as Lord
