Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life

Breaking Trail

We've had about two feet of fresh snow fall this past week. It has made walking Genni quite the challenge.

You see, Genni is a border collie-basset cross. Picture if you can, a fully-grown black and white border collie, on basset length legs with big basset paws. The snow is up past the middle of her chest and over her head in the drifts. I even had to shovel a circuit for her to go outside in the back yard so that she could get around without disappearing from sight.

When we go for our walks, wading through snow that deep tires her quite quickly. She lasts longer if I go first and break trail for her to walk in.

In two feet of snow, breaking trail isn't too hard, although it gets a little tiring after a while. I can remember at least one occasion years ago having to break trail for the sled dogs where the snow was up to my chest. We didn't have far to go through the deep stuff to get back onto a regular trail, but it was hard work. I think that's what the two feet must seem like to her.

In our daily lives, we often try and break trail. We go places God doesn't want us to do. We wander in paths that He hasn't laid out for us. Sometimes we are going where He wants us to go, but we're stubborn and want to do it on our own so we walk alongside of the path He's already laid down for us.

It's no wonder we get tired and life can be a heavy burden. We persist in making it extra hard for ourselves.

It was laid out in prophecy that John the Baptizer would come and lay the groundwork for God. In doing so, He helped lay the path for us as well.

A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken." Isaiah 40:3-5 NIV

In the same way Jesus came and laid the path for us.

You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11 NIV

You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn. Psalm 18:36 NIV

For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--every good path. Proverbs 2:6-9 NIV

The right path isn't always easy. Any route has its own share of struggles and obstacles. We can chose which path we will take.

The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave.
Proverbs 15:24 NIV

Until next time, may you choose the path of Jesus and follow closely in His footsteps. If you've stayed from the path and find yourself up to your neck in stuff, turn around and get back on the trail He's already laid for you.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

YOU ARE

Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are on the winning side.

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Colossians 2:13-15 NIV

Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. You have value in the eyes of God so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world.

Does your life feel like you're going nowhere? Does it fell like every step of the way you have to break the trail? Get right with God and get on the right path by accepting Jesus.
