Gleanings From The Word

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life

Car Bashing

The high school was having a fundraiser, I don't remember what for. Someone had donated an old car and the kids got to demolish it. Everyone paid for his or her turn at the sledgehammer. Each teen vied for his/her turn, and then took great pleasure in bashing the car to the cheers of the crowd. I was reminded of some old television commercials from the early 1970's.

They usually came on late at night or early in the morning, and some used car dealer or another would be featured smashing out the headlight or window of a vehicle and offering a "special deal" on the damaged car. I assume the technique must have worked because the ads ran for a long time. It didn't do much though for the image of the used car sales person. It didn't inspire a lot of trust in me for the dealers.

Trust is a valuable thing. You can't buy it; you can only be given it. When someone trusts us, it's a very special commodity that we need to work hard on keeping. Trust is a responsibility.

To be entrusted with something is to take responsibility of it. To treat it as if it were your own or even better.

Did you know that believers are given a sacred trust from God? Many people don't understand that fact.

For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed--God is our witness. We were not looking for praise from men, not from you or anyone 1 Thessalonians 2:3-6 NIV

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness-- a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, and at his appointed season he brought his word to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior Titus 1:1-3 NIV

It's not just a trust for pastors and preachers. It's been entrusted to ALL believers.

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.
Jude 1:3 NIV

We don't have to do it alone. Holy Spirit is there to assist us.

What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. 2 Timothy 1:13-14 NIV

We are entrusted with the Gospel. Entrusted to proclaim it and to stand for it. Entrusted to ensure that it is soundly taught. That means we have an obligation from God to understand the Bible, to recognize the difference between good and bad teaching and to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others.

How well have you handled the trust?

If you haven't done well so far, remember that it's never too late to change. We can begin to hold up our responsibilities this very moment. Read the Word, listen to some solid teaching, and share with someone what Jesus has done for you.

Until next time, may you prove worthy of God's trust in you.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

No matter what mistakes you have made in life, you can be cleansed to the point where even God will trust you. Don't you think it's time you gave up your mistakes and began to be changed into someone worthy of God's trust? All you need to do is to accept the love of His Son Jesus Christ.

If you haven't made the decision to accept Christ as Lord
