Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life
Confused
Our house cat Tigger is a confused creature. She's fourteen years old
and has lived with us for her whole life. For about the first eight or nine
years her sister Pooh (what else would you name a cat with a sibling named
Tigger?) lived with us until she got ill and had to be put to sleep. During
most of those years the two cats had the run of the house by day with no one
else home.
By the time Pooh passed on, Kathy and I had both been home during the
daytime for some time. Tigger decided that we were her kittens and treated us
accordingly, including tucking us into bed at night.
About 3 1/2 years ago we got Genni the dog. Now Tigger can't seem to
make up her mind if she's a cat, a person or a dog. She's adopted traits and
behaviours from all of us. She's not sure if she's is a cog with people
tendencies or a dat with people behaviours. The family is her kittens, her
pack and her fellow humans depending on Tigger's state of mind.
It can be that way for Christians as well. Not that we think we're cats
or dogs (if you do, I suggest serious professional and medical help) but we
can get confused as to who we are.
Many people try to be Christians on Sunday morning and then fit into
the world the rest of the week. All that happens is they get confused. They
don't live the victorious life in Christ because they only dabble with
Christianity, but they know something isn't right when they try to fit the
world's mould. There Christian witness is diminished because of their attempt
at compromise.
Christianity isn't a religion and it isn't a part time thing. You'll
never be all that God wants you to be and created you to be if you try and
juggle two identities.
Christianity is a personal, transforming relationship with Jesus
Christ. Being a Christian is an integral part of who you are once you accept
Christ.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he
is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
We're sealed with Holy Spirit when we accept Him. We're marked from the
inside as being different.
In him we were also chosen, having
been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in
conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the
first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. ] And you
also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the
promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until
the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his
glory. Ephesians 1:11-14 NIV
Now it is God who makes both us and you
stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and
put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NIV
You'll never be satisfied trying to juggle two identities. It's time to
recognize who you are in the eyes of Christ.
You are a blood bought child of the most High God. You're adopted into
the family of Christ. Don't you think it's time you started acting like the
person you are made to be?
Until next time may you begin to understand who you are in Christ and
what it means to be a Christian.
Be blessed.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

Being a Christian isn't all about being
nice or being good. It's about a relationship with God that allows you to
become everything He made you to be. Wouldn't you like to be everything you
were meant to be?
If you haven't made the decision to accept Christ as Lord
