Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life
Does It Matter?
Sorry to disappoint everyone, but we live next to a golf course, not a
gold course. Yesterday was an incredibly bad day on the keyboard. There is
gold in Alberta, but none sitting around in the fields near my home.
I got in a discussion yesterday with a good friend of mine. We talk of
many things including theology when we get together. He's one of the people
who doesn't roll his or her eyes when I get on a roll talking about God.
We often try and solve all the problems of the Christian church when we
get together. He's also one of my accountability partners who keeps me on
track with my Christian walk. He's not afraid to ask me the hard questions
and he doesn't let me skirt around the issues.
I believe that every Christian needs at least one friend with whom he
or she can be totally honest. Someone who loves you despite your faults and
who won't pull any punches when you get off course. Someone who reminds you
what the Bible says in a corrective, non-condemning way when you fall down or
are facing tough decisions and tempted to compromise.
Real Christian fellowship matters. I'm not talking about superficial,
polite conversation. I'm talking about people who truly love you enough to
confront you, offer godly counsel and encourage you when you are down.
Far too often our fellowship is shallow, meaningless and frankly a
waste of time. We need to surround ourselves with other believers who will
cause us to stretch and grow in our faith walk. We need people who aren't
afraid to correct us.
The fellowship in many Christian churches is so shallow as to be
non-existent. Polite conversation about the weather in the foyer or about the
local sports team during the potluck isn't Christian fellowship.
Fellowship involves talking about our victories and our failures in
Christ. It involves sharing how we've seen God's hand at work. It means
sharing our burdens with each other.
That which was from the beginning, which we have
heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our
hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life
appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the
eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim
to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship
with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus
Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.
1 John 1:1-4 NIV
They devoted themselves to the apostles'
teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were
done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in
common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had
need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They
broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added
to their number daily those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47 NIV
Opening ourselves up to true fellowship involves taking risks and
sharing with one another. Sometimes we get hurt, but true fellowship is
always worth the risk.
False fellowship, like false unity in a church is meaningless. It
destroys rather than builds up. Does fellowship matter? Yes, it matters a
great deal.
Until next time, may you find a church or relationships where the
fellowship is real.
Be blessed.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

YOU ARE
Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are a
member of God's household
Consequently, you are no longer
foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of
God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with
Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is
joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him
you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by
his Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22 NIV
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant.
You have value in the eyes of God so great that it was worth dying for. You
are a blessing to the world.
The key to contentment in life is to know God and walk in His ways.
Anyone can know about God but the ability to know God is left to individual
choice. You can have a personal, intimate relationship with God just for the
asking.
