Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life
Pennies on
Edge
The young man sitting in
the coffee shop was obviously waiting for someone. He looked up expectantly
at everyone who entered and frequently checked his watch.
Growing bored, he fished
some pennies out of his pocket and amused himself by trying to stand the
coins on their sides. Some stood up quite easily, while others were more
difficult and kept falling over. A few even rolled off the table onto the
floor, which seemed to embarrass him, but he picked them up.
When he leaned over to
pick up the dropped coins, he bumped the table, knocking some of the standing
coins down. He just picked them up and went back to standing them.
After some time, he grew
bored with the coins and stuffed them back in his pocket. He waited a while
and seemed to be preparing to leave when his friend finally showed up.
Sometimes our lives are
like that handful of pennies.
We go through times when
standing for what we believe in is easy; we’re able to stand no matter what.
Other times we stand until some bump knocks us down. At other times we can’t
seem to stand at all and run away.
The big difference is
that we’re not standing on a table. We’re standing in the hand of God. Even
when we fall flat or run away we’re still safely in his hand. He doesn’t drop
us or discard us.
We are powerless to stand
on our own or to get back up after falling. He stays with us, stands us back
up in His hand and protects us. He loves us too much to grow bored with us or
be embarrassed when we fall.
Once we are safely in
God’s hands nothing can take us away from Him.
My sheep listen to my
voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they
shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has
given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my
Father's hand. I and the Father are one. John 10:27-30 NIV
No, in all these things
we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that
neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor
the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in
all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in
Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39 NIV
I don’t know what your
day will bring. I don’t know if you will be standing, falling or running
away. I do know that no matter what, if you have accepted Him, He will still
be there to hold you.
Until next time, be
blessed by the comfort and fullness of God’s love.
