Egyptian Christian released, but still not allowed to leave Egypt
October 9, 2003

Egyptian Christian Bolis Rezek-Allah, who was pulled off an international flight on September 24 and arrested by Egyptian secret police, has been released.

Rezek-Allah was taken before a judge, who ruled that there were no legal reason to continue his detention. Following his release, though, police accused him of being a drug dealer. Those charges will prevent him from leaving Egypt and immigrating to Canada, which granted him a visa.

His wife, Enas Badawi, a former Muslim who converted to Christianity, is still being sought by police but has not yet been apprehended.

"I forced you to sell your pharmacy,” one police officer reportedly told Rezek-Allah, “I forced you to sell your car, and this time I will force you to commit suicide if you do not tell us where your wife is.”

The Voice of the Martyrs urges American Christians to pray for Rezek-Allah and for Badawi.
