Gleanings From The Word

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life

Face to Face

An old friend dropped by to visit for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon. He has been working out of the country the past few years and took some time off at Christmas to visit family and friends. In a couple of days, he heads off south again to his job and his "other" home.

We correspond by email, and he keeps tabs on the Corbin household through reading Gleanings but it isn't the same as sitting down face to face. There is something special about face-to-face communication that other mediums can't quite match.

I use email a lot, I'm not a big telephone fan, and I write the very rare letter. All of them beat not communicating hands down, but none of them match actually being in the room with someone.

I have a personal relationship with Christ, so I have unimpeded access to the throne of God. He answers my prayers and is with me where ever I go. Holy Spirit dwells within me and gives me guidance. Yet somehow, all of that will pale when we finally get to see Father in heaven.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12 NIV

There is a popular worship song out that talks of only being able to imagine what He will be like and how we will react when we're in His presence. Like the songwriter, I can only imagine.

I have a wonderful taste of who God is through His grace, His mercy, His Word and His presence in my life. Yet, I know that as wonderful as that taste is, it is only a small sample and when we sit face to face, He will be so much more.

John tried to describe his experience in heaven in the book of Revelation but he could only write in metaphors.

After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this." At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front ! and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come." Revelation 4:1-8 NIV

Even with the wonderful word pictures that John creates, I can still only imagine what a face to face with Father will be like. I don't know what it will be like, but I know it will be better than anything I can ever imagine, because God is so much bigger than anything I can ever comprehend.

Until next time, live your faith walk to its fullest and rejoice knowing that even better things are yet to come when He meets us face to face.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

Kevin

There are two destinations for people after they die. We can spend eternity in the presence of God and all His glory, or we can spend it separated from Him in hell. The choice is ours. It has nothing to do with how good or how bad we've been, it has everything to do with accepting the free gift of love, forgiveness and reconciliation that He offers all of us. Will you accept His offer?

If you haven't made the decision to accept Christ as Lord
