Gleanings From The Word

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life

One More Time

Part of the lake was cleared for skating in conjunction with the New Year's Eve celebrations a couple of nights ago. As I walked around the lake last night, I noticed the new "rink" was full of people skating.

Families were learning to skate together. I heard one young boy calling "Come on grandpa, you can do it!" One couple skated and pushed their child around in a stroller.

Kids were playing a game of shinny hockey. The net was a couple of snowballs on the edge of the ice and there was no referee. There weren't any screaming parents or fans yelling for a fight. It was a nice change.

A number of couples were out for a romantic moonlight skate. I'm not sure how romantic it was with the hockey game and all the kids around, but they didn't seem to notice.

Further down the lake, the toboggan hill was busy with families. I heard one family talking about going for hot chocolate. I didn't intend to listen but it was hard not to, the parents were at the top of the hill and the kids were half way across the lake after a trip down the hill.

"We're going home for hot chocolate! One more trip down the hill."

"We want to stay longer!"

"One more time"

"MORE!!!"

"Okay, no more trips we're leaving now!"

"But mommmmmmmmmmmmmm..."

"Your choice. One more time or no more times."

"Okay! We'll go one more."

By the time I was nearly out of earshot, I thought I heard the kids calling from the bottom of the hill, "Just one more. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

I'm pretty certain the kids didn't get their way.

I think we treat God that way sometimes. We'll do what we know God wants, soon. After one more ride down the hill.

We'll give up our favorite sin after just one more time. We'll go and witness to the "next" person. We'll start to tithe after the next raise or when the kids leave home. We'll teach Sunday school when things aren't quite so busy. We'll get right with God again tomorrow. We'll make peace with our neighbor or call our family tomorrow.

The problem is that we're called to do things now.

As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NIV

The enemy is hard at work now.

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. 1 John 4:1-3 NIV

We may not have a tomorrow to do those things. He is coming back and we don't know when.

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father Mark 13:32 NIV

Even if we do have a tomorrow, we don't know what it will bring

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14 NIV

Now is the time for obedience. Now is the time for peace making. Now is the time for giving, for restoration, and for reconciliation. What are you waiting for?

Until next time, ask yourself what am I being called to do now? Then do it.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

Kevin

Many people want to wait before committing their lives to Christ. They want to wait until the very last minute so they can continue an ungodly lifestyle or because they don't want to admit their mistakes. It's better to face them now and ask God for forgiveness than to find yourself standing at the time of judgment with all your sin to answer for. Don't wait any longer accept Jesus now.

If you haven't made the decision to accept Christ as Lord
