"GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD"

SIN

Canada continues to slide down the slippery slope of sin. Earlier this month an Ontario high court ruled to allow a three parent family. The 5 year old child's biological father is one of the three. The other two are his biological mother and her lesbian partner. All have full parental rights.

Now that this country has legalized same sex marriages and three partner "parents", it is only a matter of time before the natural legal outcome permitting polygamy kicks in. That lobby is already hard at work, as is the lobby to allow inter-generational sex (read pedophilia behind the politically correct term) and to lower the age of sexual consent even further. May God have mercy on our souls.

There is a pervasive attitude that if something is "legal" or "socially acceptable" it is no longer a sin. That is a lie straight from the pit of hell and it smells of smoke. For years it was legal to own slaves in many countries, that was sin. For years it was legal to segregate based on race that was a sin. It is legal to buy alcohol and drink to excess ... drunkenness is still a sin. Adultery is socially acceptable but it is still a sin. Group sex and swingers clubs are no longer illegal in Canada but that does not make what goes on there any less of a sin.

Homosexual marriages may be legal in an increasing number of countries but sex with a same gender partner is still sin. Abortion as a means of "birth control" is legal in many countries but it is sin. Euthanasia is legal in some countries but it is still murder and sin. The same goes for so called "assisted" suicides.

The bench mark for sin is God's Word, not the legal code of some province or nation and not the moral sensibilities of a depraved nation. We can legislate all we want. We can rationalize and justify all we want. We can be as "tolerant" as we like, but sin is sin is sin. God's standards do not change and we will stand before Him one day and make a full account of our lives.

Now please understand that while these things are all sin, we must still love these people. Hating someone because of their sin is equally sin. We are called to love the sinner and hate the sin. Yet we must be careful at the same time not to condone ungodly behavior. We must continue to speak out against sin wherever we find it, because true love is not ignoring sin, but pointing to the one who can save us from it.

People, make no mistake God will not be mocked. He is righteous and holy and cannot abide sin of any form.

Galatians 6:7-8 NIV
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

The good news is that God loves us and when we turn from our sin and trust in Him, forgiveness can be ours.

1 John 1:9-10 NIV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

When we do not speak out against sin, when we allow ourselves to justify it, we rob ourselves of the forgiveness of God that could be ours.

Until next time, let us all examine our hearts and seek to root out the sins that make us stumble.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)

Be blessed
